Simon Y. Looking at your route, I have found Calais, Reims, Strasbourg, Basel to Zurich to be preferable. Driving on my own, this takes 7 to 8 hours for the 520 Miles. Strasbourg thru the Black Forest to Zurich is a nice run but twice the time. Geoff F.

I've also started looking at possible routes now and viaMichelin (other route-finders are available) came up with pretty much that same route Simon. I was sort of hoping to go via Dijon as I remember it as being worth a revisit without the mega-strong trappist monk's lager this time (note to self: do not let NeilS choose beer) although it looks to be too far south and adds miles to the route so it seems like we'll be taking the northerly option. Anyone ever been anywhere near Lake Konstanz?

Bob, Routes : I have stayed in a very nice hotel in Freudenstadt in the Schwarzwald (just over the Rhine from Strasbourg) - it was part of a trip organised by "the other MG club" many years ago. Easily reached in a day from Calais on the Peage, though. Also, good, fun, twisty roads around there.

Phew! Looks like that dumping of snow a few days ago has all but gone. Was seriously considering the Landrover there for a second.

About time to seriously start to look at a route now and I've been pouring over the map this set of nights - I'm thinking Home to Reims Reims to Strasbourg ( a couple of nights stay) Strasbourg to Konstanz or Zurich Konstanz/Zurich to Davos Davos to Bormio Bormio to Lake Como Lake Como to Freiburg Freiburg to Nancy Nancy to Laon Laon to Calais
But I'm quite sure that will change soon !

Following a sad family problem, we are back on track for 13th using Tim's Reims, Strasbourg to Basel, 15th Gstaad, 17th Interlaken (Lauterbrunnen) via St Bernard and Lochenstein Tunnel, 20th thru the passes to St Moritz, Saturday to Bormio, 23rd to Davos, 24th Basel via Zurich Airport and the coffee machine factory then 25th home to sleep. If anybody is in our vicinity. then we will have some cold Speckled Hen in the back. Geoff F.

Right - as predicted itinerary changed so we are now going ;D
Home to Reims Reims to Strasbourg ( a couple of nights stay) Strasbourg to Mulhouse (Schlumpf museum) Mulhouse to Davos Davos to Bormio Bormio to Bellagio Bellagio to Colmar Colmar to Epernay Epernay to Calais
Finally got it all booked including the ferries
Still a chance for any one else to join us in Davos and Bormio - you'll find the hotel details on the linked website earlier in the thread.
The NTM is an adventurous and fun free for all trip - take as long as you like to get there, stay where you like on the trip down and back but meet up in the middle for a Natter on the weekend. Go by yourself or with friends - the choice is entirely yours.
We'll be driving the passes on the Saturday 22nd September from Davos to Bormio.

Had a quick look at Autoroute and it says Didcot to Davos in just over 11 hours.....
On the basis I don't fancy that in one go, does anyone know any nice hotels around the Strasbourg, Colmar, Mulhouse area ?

Be careful with Autoroute. It gets you to the Channel, changes time + 1Hour to CET but does not add ferry/tunnel Time. I drive Leamington to Basle via the Tunnel in 11 Hours or 12 on a bad day. So Strasbourg will be 8 to 9. For you it is a good idea to stop just before Strasbourg to avoid the evening rush hour. I will add a suggested place/hotel later. I would then avoid Colmar, Mulhouse and then presumably Basle thru Zurich, but head directly east thru the Black Forest. An enjoyable and most scenic run. Geoff F.

Suggestions. Saverne. 30 Miles before Strasbourg, just south of the A4/E25. Perhaps Hotel Europe. Oberwolfach. A little further into the Black Forest being 40 Miles SE of Stasbourg. Hotel 3 Koenige. www.3koenige.deGeoff F.
