Bob - I seem to recall that we drank to Absent Friend last year. Looks like we might have to do the same this year.......

Do it Andie - you know you want to And after Kempenrit this will be a doddle - no where near that mileage (or last year's down to Monaco) ;D You see, you venture out of the UK once and now you can't wait to do it again (plus I bet you've got some Euro's left that need spending!) ;D ;D ;D

You don't see Cannonball Bob for a year and then he turns up twice in a week. Sadly it seems pretty certain he won't make Angouleme as he has to be back in Poole to catch a ferry to Spain on the Tuesday after that weekend which makes things a little too hectic !
If there are any last minute entreis add your names now.
I've nearly booked the entire trip now just looking for somewhere near Fontainebleau to stay for a couple of days on the way back.
Challenges ?
This years challenges will be....
Best Snow Dome - must be bought on the way down
Longest Place Name - Digital photograph as proof you were there !
Most bugs on the front bumper
Dullest post card bought on the way down
....Nice and easy this year - We've run out of MGF Register coasters as prizes so it might have to be Key Rings !

You really on top of the game this year Neil. I actually got around to booking a ferry this morning : SpeedFerries, 07:00, Thursday.
Thursday overnight? Another week for planning yet! Probably aiming for Saumur, probably just the Campanile.
Stu is having a few more car problems; it's back at TechSpeed again; hopefully fixed and usable by next Thursday.
More problems with my mother - she fell over again today and is in hospital with broken wrist and pelvis. Too early to know what NHS has in store for her and/or where she may go for convelescence but I really want to get to Angouleme. If I have to cancel late, then it could really strain filial care.

You have my sympathies, John. I have a 92 year old, frail MIL who lives alone and only a mile away. She fell and broke her hip 4 years ago and, sadly, still has a restricting influence on our lives. I hope your mother recovers soon, that you do get to Angouleme and have a very enjoyable time.

You have my sympathies, John. Nigel, thanks for the thoughts. Mum had a hip replaced 2 1/2 years ago; walking has never recovered very well; suspect this will put extra strain on a broken pelvis and make repair very slow.

John - hope this all works out for you as you would wish, and that we'll see you in Angouleme.
(You can't not go, having done all the research!)

We'll be leaving in a few hours time, so catch you all in Angouleme next weekend I hope that includes John & Lyn, and that your current difficulties allow you to get away. I also hope that includes Stu with his current car difficulties. See you all in the sun ;D

It's nearly here now ! I've booked our final hotel today so our interary will be out on tuesday morning then
Tuesday night - staying by the River Seine just outside Paris Wednesday - Tours Thu - Sun - Ibis Angouleme Monday - Beaugency in Loire vally Tuesday - Brabazon near Fontainebleau Wednesday - Arras Thursday - back home !
Should give me some time to solve the challenges - I shall expect every effort to collect bugs from those rushing down on Thursday or friday !
Hopefully we'll be sticking to Plan A and going for a run to Cognac on saturday morning - meet up about 10am at the Hotel Ibis.
We'll then find a suitable location for the actual natter on Saturday evening - gather at 7pm at the Hotel Ibis again.
Sunday we'll be enjoying the day in Angouleme watching the vintage racing.
Being a free and easy event we're not 100% sure who's actually coming still - so if anyone turns up we don't know about it'll be a nice surprise !
So far we do know about ...
John & Lyn P (Ibis) Mike H and Mrs H (Ibis) TimM & Liz (Ibis) Adrian & Dawn (Ibis) Neil S (Ibis) Stu Dickens (Ibis) Simon Young (Somewhre else nearby !) Steve S ? (not sure) Barbara & Neil Rushton (not sure !) David & Carole Walker (camping) Barry Goodman (Local resident who'll meet us on saturday)
Hope you do get there John as you are the man holding the umbrella !
See you there !
