Sorry mean't MGCC which should be a requirement for any posters, otherwise your attracting any old Tom, Dick and Harry !!!! ;D So, you straight away throw away opportunities to attract new club members. I joined MGCC after and because I found this forum. Tom, Dick and Harry should be made welcome and shown the advantages of joining MGCC.

Pinkjay, you will allways be Jay and defo not Tom, Dick or Harry. Boypete, look forward to seeing you at a meet sometime soon. Of course everyone is welcome, however if they should wish to join then I belive it is a requirement that members become MGCC members. Needless to say I will be corrected if wrong. Anyway this is going off topic which should be a new forum or not, me I will go with the powers that be. ;D

Question: Will I keep my 'running out of stars - 1600 +' posting title or will we have to start from scratch again??? Petty issue you might say, but a major one in my eyes!!!!

Why should your posting figures be so important surely its the quality and not the quantity that counts. (steps back and waits for flame!!) ;D

Post counts could be manually altered to match ones on here, a minor annoyance but one that I'd be happy to do The DPA is a UK law, the US Data Protection laws are much more... vague as to what can and cannot be published without consent. And as ProBoards is a US based firm it's US laws they abide by. And yes, the intention is to host the forum on a server leased by ourselves.

It's up to us to persuade people to join. I'll be at Lullingstone....meet up?

I can see both points of view of 'if it works leave it alone' and also 'get the forum under our full control'. As a user, I find the board OK to use now. I am sure most would transfer to the new forum if one was set up but two things to think about may be 1) Only 33 votes so far out of 835 registered users 2) All the data on this present forum would eventually be lost as I can see it. It can be 'locked' for now but if it not used as a forum won't the board get shut down real soon? That looses a vast database of information for searching down problems without having to repeat it all again on a new forum.
Last comment, the MGCC forum was a disaster once launched - OK most people don't even know its there probably. If a new forum for us is set up, please ensure the registration is easier than that one was.

I have watched the comments with interest before adding my tuppence worth. The only reason to change is so the F register can be the sole owner of it's own site, plus all archive material must be able to be brought over. I am very anti American ownership of any thing that I am associated with as they eventually try and force their own dumbed down set of values on every one. Being a member of the MGCC or MGOC should not be a pre requisite of being able to access or comment on this forum. Our Australian site means you must be a member of the MGCC( VIC ) and registered to even read the comments, that is why we have so few contributers to our forum which is a pro board site, reason why? it's cheap.

So summarising the position, it would appear that the downside to this conversion are:- 1. Moving from a free service to one that will cost us money (how much and who is paying?) 2. Loose all the history that has accumulated on this Forum 3. Loose people’s personal details and even there log on ids 4. Require everyone to re register
The upside is the techies will have a chance to play with some new mud and they claim it will make it easier to carry out the vital role of censorship.
Looks like a no brainer to me!

Since James has volunteered to set up 800 plus posting counts on the proposed new platform, then why not offer to do the job properly and convert full user profiles?

If the service is hosted offshore then the Data Protection Act does not apply as the service is outside British jurisdiction.

Since James has volunteered to set up 800 plus posting counts on the proposed new platform, then why not offer to do the job properly and convert full user profiles? Because most likely half of those profiles are duplicates, I hardly see the point of copying over duplicate accounts. This also gives us a truer number of active registered users. A very quick checks shows that only 510 of those 835 have ever made a post.
