we all get to pick our preferrred travel arrangements that fit in with our time and money constariants and we all get together somewhere rather nice on a Saturday night and enjoy a few drinks and a good meal in friendly company. Agreed. See you there then! Or on the way? Going by your photo can I bring the Discovery instead? I'm planning on out Thursday (early-ish) morning, back Tuesday evening. Speedferry ahoy and Ibis beds, Stelvio box ticked somewhere along the way.

Mr Cannonballbob......if you're bringing your Discovery, can my OH bring his? ! O/T, I'm currently wincing ahell of a lot after a pre-op drug implant in my tummy today....so this whole debate re Italy is really helping to take my mind off the soreness! Thanks guys! I know this sounds insane - maybe! - but when is best to book ferry-type crossings? And which is the best place to travel from/to??? Is such info already on here somewhere....? I have probably missed it....now I'm 40 its easily done! LMAO!

ferry routes are like many other things in life --- one man's meat is ....
Depends where you want to go from and to and when.
I favour Dover as my start point for most of France and either use Speedferries high speed no frills to Boulogne-sur-Mer or, increasingly, Norfolki Lines to Dunkirque.
Speedferries are amogst the cheapest and are currently quoting £58 return; advance open tickets can be bought now at that price and changed to the required date nearer the day. Having said that, I've never actually paid as much as £58 for a speedferries return as bargins can become available. Bit like ryanair, prices change based on booking numbers.

I'm toying with the idea of booking in the next week or so. At £58 it's not the end of the World if the trip falls through (could even sell it on?), as opposed to booking it a month before and finding fares at £200+ which would be a bit of a bummer. John's right though, if you're willing to gamble a bit, Speedferries sell off the last spaces at the last minute. I got across for £ 9 once. Oh and John, the phrase is: One man's fish.......is another man's poisson.

Speedferries are still offering there supertickets up to the 9th Jan
It's £29 each way, you book both outbound and return on the 25th dec and you can change the booking once to whatever date suits you at no cost.
I have two outbound and returns booked and can re arrange them to suit what ever jolly's i manage to make this year.
Stu ;D

Interest List for Italian Job/Natter That matters 2007
Adrian & Dawn Tim & Liz Simon & Ann Art & Christine Colin Andie & David Bob & Kate John & Lynne Steve & Pam Kasper & Marion Keith Jerry & Diane Kenneth & Jeanette Dave and Trish Steve White (As I would most probably be on my tod, my preference is to travel in a group. ) John & Lyn Ponting (just in case there is another John & Lynne) Alistair & Carol (subject to son's graduation date etc)
Happy to travel on our own or in a group, as long as we get to go!! Would even consider joining up with Dave K and Andie, despite the hurtful comments in another place!! ;D
Hope everyone will 'lighten up' for the trip, otherwise I might just bypass the natter and head down to Rome!!

Alistair, most of have known, and been on several trips with, each other and don't see anything to lighten up over. May look that way to "outsiders" etc but not really. This will be my 3rd NtM in 3 years, my 4th Highlander, my 4th Pencelli, hopefully my 2nd Pyrennees as well as countless Midland and Yorkshire meets.
In spite of his comments, Bob really is a nice guy and in fact he "organised" the first F even that we attended. Organise is a bit ott - he actually named a pub not far from his mothers and said when he'd be there. We travelled 50% of the M25 and a bit further for a very nice informal Sunday lunch. Also met Neil Sutton at the same time.
Hopefully the Italian Job will take off and we will all have a great weekend - however we choose to travel. The main thing is the celebratory dinner on the Saurday night. 2005 was the Cafe de Paris in Monaco, 2006 was a charming refuge from a torrential rain storm - were will 2007 be?

In spite of his comments Bob really is a nice guy Thanks John! or is it or do I mean or most likely a ;D I think maybe it's 20 years (this year! ) in the military that's done it to me. Say what you mean, mean what you say etc. Can't believe you travelled half way around London at my suggestion. I am sorry.

Wow, Mr Cannonballbob....that surely is a serious rendezvous!
May I ask which branch of the 'military' you are/were in??? I'm nosey...and I'm wondering whether you'd have the knowledge to blow a straighter route through the Stelvio Pass!!!! LOL!

great find Bob!!!
The taglieri di salumi locali e i formaggi d’alpe looks a fitting plate to celebrate the NtM 2007.
Can we drive to the restaurant or will you get your friends to help out?
