Thanks for missing the last two off the list See what I mean? As soon as things have too much planning applied, people end up disappointed. I'd rather see the list removed and look forward to simply seeing who shows up, as with the original idea.

I might be because Dave can't cut and paste properly, not because I'm on/off a notional "list". If it really is so important to make the point, why not go "The Long Way Round" setting off now armed with only a tent See you there?

Sorry about the cutting and pasting! Was never my big subject at school.
I thought the point of the Natter was for a group of enthusiasts to turn up at a given location, on a given date. How those enthusiasts get there is surely immaterial. Some will fly solo, some will be part of a larger group enjoying the company of others and having more of a holiday.
The important thing, as I see it, is arriving at the Natter - so can we stop the bickering, it's not very grown up is it.

If it really is so important to make the point, why not go "The Long Way Round" setting off now armed with only a tent See you there? It's not about proving a point. The original concept of the NtM idea was to step away from offering a packaged solution in order to avoid the potential for the never-ending "You can't please all the people all the time" situation, and in doing so maybe attract more people to the social aspect of the event who might otherwise be put off by having their route, timings and hotel chosen for them. I also recall the days not so long ago, when the Register put it's name (and funds) to an event which turned out to be a total disaster and from which it has only recently fully recovered. Have to confess to being a little sad that the idea of a genuine rendezvous (in which quite a few people expressed an interest over a fully organised tour when Neil and I first came back from our trip to Monaco) has simply been superceded by another Treffen.

Have to confess to being a little sad that the idea of a genuine rendezvous (in which quite a few people expressed an interest over a fully organised tour when Neil and I first came back from our trip to Monaco) has simply been superceded by another Treffen. I thought your original 2004 idea of an unorganised trip, culminating in an organised meet was very good Bob. So good in fact that we organised a NtM in 2005 to Monaco and another in 2006 to Angouleme. Unfortunately you were unable to attend either (you were toasted at both) but a good time was had by all on both occaisions. I personally see no problems with combining the meeting point for a NtM with a weekend stop over on the Italian Job in 2007. Best of both worlds: we all get to pick our preferrred travel arrangements that fit in with our time and money constariants and we all get together somewhere rather nice on a Saturday night and enjoy a few drinks and a good meal in friendly company. At the moment I don't know how much time I will have available, or even if I will still have an MG. I have to fit family requirements in with personal choices, work and also combine MG fun with Triumph biking trips. I am also aware, from talking to people on other trips/meets, that some are unfamiliar with Euro travel and feel happier in the company of a group, preferably with a trip leader of some sort.

Exactly John. Last year I went to Kempenrit. I didn't even have a passport when Adrian talked me into joining in when I met him on the Cobweb Spin...I had NEVER been abroad in my life (and I was 39!). So, my very first trip abroad was also driving all the way from Dunkerque to Mechelen, north of Brussels. I would never have joined in if it hadn't been so well organised - I wouldn't have been brave enough to do my first drive in Europe without 'back-up'! After Kempenrit, David and I stayed an extra day, did some sightseeing and then I drove back to Dunkerque (I did all the driving as David isn't permitted to drive Aphrodite!!!) very happily on my own. I feel quite happy to have another bash at driving alone, but it would also be nice to have company at some point. Some people also like things to be a little pre-arranged (hotel suggestions etc). For people like me who are new to this sort of thing it is comforting to know that someone is giving us a helping hand! I think the great thing about this NtM is that its up to each person what they choose to do, which route they take and how long they wish to spend there.

The way I see it, the format of the NTM would be as it has been in previous years in that all the arrangements are left to individuals.
'The Italian Job' would then a separate more 'organised' event along the lines of the Sweden trip or the Treffen, with a coinciding stop at the same hotel (or at hotel in close proximity) as the NTM attendees as staying in.
This would then satisfy both those that want to go-it-alone and those that want to travel as a group.
Perhaps a new 'Italian Job' thread needs starting so that this one can be left to the NTM discussions?

I for one am really pleased with the direction that the Italian Job is heading! Thankyou Adrian and Fabio (and the others I've probably missed out!) for the hard work so far on this one!

I too think that every one will be a winner when the 'Italian job' meets the NTM or even when the NTM meets the 'Italian job' which ever way you want to look a it. I have taken my F to the top of Norway as a solo car and driver, camping all the way with just the ferry booked to and from Norway. Great fun was had. Driving with a crowd has extra fun thrown in and opens it up to more people to enjoy that fun. Two 'separate' events are coinciding over one week end. We will all be winners, enjoying our cars in what ever way we prefer, solo, in a small group or a larger convoy. Roll on September. I will be traveling in the group that has the camera car Can't miss out on not been in the third MGF video as well as the others ;D
