If it is a straight replacement I think you will find you won't be able to put the hood down unless you remove the glass.
And as a BTW the plastic screen does not zip out! only the top and sides unzip and you have to de-rivet the bottom to get it out completely.

Mike Satur had a rear glass window kit on his stand at the MGFest for around the £250 mark. I think adamelphick (see link above bought his rear window from Xpart for around £150 and made it work with the hood so that the hood can be folded without unzipping. homepage.ntlworld.com/ag.elphick/MGF/glassrearscreen/index.htm

The official glass replacement is actually smaller than the original plastic window and you need to replace the whole of the rear window panel - this then allows you to unzip the rear window and lie it flat on the engine cover shelf before folding the hood down. Maybe you can also then fold the hod with the rear window in place - you certainly will not be able to do that if it is the same size as the plastic window, unless of course they have invented a new bendy glass.

would be a easy option dont you think bendy glass! so in effect you cannot get a zip in glass screen that just zips in place of the plastic one? the advert on e-bay made it sound so easy, (sorry i am blonde) lol The official glass replacement is actually smaller than the original plastic window and you need to replace the whole of the rear window panel - this then allows you to unzip the rear window and lie it flat on the engine cover shelf before folding the hood down. As others have said Mike Satur does (or used to do) replacement hoods with glass rear window and they are (were) good BUT the glass area was definitely smaller than the plastic and from what I have seen the same applies to the MGR hood that was introduced just before their demise.
Unfortunately NO the windows do not just zip in and out.

I have a mgtf 2004. It came with a plastic screen. I have just purchased a glass screen from Mike Satur for GBP175.00. I had to remove the entire plastic screen including de-rivetting at the bottom of the hood and also at the rear bow - a lot of work. The zipper on the glass screen is smaller than that of the plastic screen. I had to take the top part to an uphosterer to have the top zip sewn in. Also the screen must be unzipped prior to folding down the hood. A GREAT modification though, considering the price of a new plastic screen Hope this helps.

If a new plastic rear screen from Sonia Morris costs £115 fitted while you wait, or £75 sent to your address, I would have thought glass is not a such good idea, whether you like top down motoring or not. The original plastic has the added advantage of going up or down, even while driving, in just a few seconds without any need for unzipping anything.

I agree with Charles BUT the glass does have the advantage of being fitted with a screen heater for demisting plus it does not go opaque but a good clean with Greygate (I think that its name) cure that.

Just to clarify, the OEM glass screen as fitted to MY2005 TF's does not need to be un-zipped to lower the hood, neither does the screen in the BAS, Satur etc aftermarket glass screened hoods.
The problem comes with after-market glass screen panels, designed to be fitted to plastic screened hoods, as the glass is often the wrong size, shape or in the wrong position to allow the hood the be lowered with the screen panel zipped in.
