Hi Guys, Thought I would give you an update on the car (red 1998 MPi MGF I rescued) just in case anyones interested... 1. I've decided to keep the spare set of alloys for now (15" newer style 6-spoke), and sell off the others as 3 full size spare wheels. 2. Roof has come up really well - just got to decide now whether it is worth replacing the window (£83 all in) and sell the other roof, or just bung the other roof on. 3. Pipes went on without a hitch (apart from having to grind off a bolt from the undertray!). There was a cut/leak in the front rubber pipe leading to the radiator, but luckily it was close enough to the edge that I could cut it off and still have enough length to hook it up. Coolant (OK, water ) bleed went without a hitch too. 4. I've managed to get the engine started for all of 5 seconds, but at least I now know why. Basically the existing petrol has seperated and mixed with water over the years and formed a very "un-engine friendly" liquid, so it was never going to fire managed to rig up a hose to the fuel pump to get rid of the majority out of the tank by turning the engine over (since I could not find a live feed to the pump to bypass the starter motor), but in the process I burnt out the starter motor . So at the weekend, the fuel tanks coming out for a clean.... fun job Any tips?

Nigel, I've got a good black hood and rear window here that I need to send back to BAS. If you want the whole thing, give Steve a call, he may be happy to let you swop them over. I have your glovebox in the car, that I will give to Simon on Sunday.
Did you get the bootlid finishers that you were bidding on ? I was going to grab them but I saw it was you so I didn't bid against you.

What exactly did you buy Adrian? Its looking good though, and if it goes through whereabouts are you?

Nigel, my new two tone Sportster hood had a fault with the mechanism, it wouldnt fold down sufficiently. BAS and I are several hundred miles apart so they sent me down by UPS a standard black hood (belonged to a member as it had an mgfregister sticker on it !) I fitted that and returned my hood to them for it to be repaired. They have since done so and the black one is being returned to them this week. That is the hood I was referring to, I thought of you as BAS are in Cwmbran, not too far from you.

my new two tone Sportster hood had a fault with the mechanism, it wouldnt fold down sufficiently. Didn't they tell you !?! That was by design as your car is a demo (see MGFest), so the BAS hood need to be up all time Back on topic: Wouldn't it be better to replace the complete hose instead of cutting of the damaged edge and reconnecting it. After all I could imagine that the overall state of the hose isn't really perfect. Just a thought ....

Productive weekend this one... - Removed / Emptied / Cleaned out / Refitted fuel tank - Obtained "Green liquid" that destroyed the splashed tar on the paintwork in a few seconds! - Removed and cleaned seats (although they will need doing again) - Cleaned internal carpets (they were unbelievable!) - Removed starter motor after confirming that it is well and truly fried - Hammerite-ed underfloor panel and Fuel cover panel for future protection. Got pics if anyone is interested, so I can do a few how-tos on various bits
