Just got me MOT this morning and the tester advised that my rear tyre were on the limit. I think it is nearer 2mm than 1.6mm but still will need to replace soon. Currently has Goodyear Eagles all round.
I've heard that getting hold of the Goodyears can be tricky (although I'll ask my friendly local tyre company). Also heard that Toyo's are better than the Goodyears.
I can only afford to replace the rear tyres at the mo so should I stay with the same all round or change to Toyo's at the back and replace the fronts when the time comes.
Advise and comments please.......

Hi Graham, Tyres are a touchy subject, as everyone has there own opinions But to save boring you here are the basics 1. There are two GoodYear F1 Eagles around at the moment... "GSD2" and their replacements "GSD3" 2. It is not a good idea to mix these. 3. The Toyos you are referring to are Toyo T1-Rs. Many, many people like this tyre (some have found they wear slightly quicker, although they are cheaper). Therefore my advice to you would be this.... Check your (good) front tyres and get some quotes for the same goodyears to match. If the quote is astromical / you cant get any, get some Toyo's fitted If you go for the Toyo's, seriously look into a quote for all 4, keeping the good years as spares... fitting costs will be the same, and often you can wangle a better discount for all 4 tyres Here is a link to a post with some recent tyre prices I found fregister.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1181660428

Graham, I did the backs first from variety tyres to T1-R for about 4 months and noticed a huge improvement in traction especially on acceleration with a bit of lock in the damp. I then got the full smiles package with the fronts later. I would definitely go for it - my set of T1-Rs cost a whisker over £220 all four with 4 wheel tracking after the fronts went on(15" wheels). The rears still look OK with 20k on. It is a subjective thing as suggested, but it worked for me.

I had NO problem getting a new Goodyear GSD2 in the Lake District in May and it was under £80 fitted. They did say they could also get 195s for the front.
2 new tryes that you are happy with or 4 new tyres - not that difficult a choice surely.....

I paid £112 last saturday for a 16" 215 rear from kwick fit.
I've chosen to stay with GSD2's all around

£112 is overpriced for a GSD 02. The Goodyear website 'Dealers' page has been down for some months however look for your local Hi-Q dealer. I expect to pay £90 but they did return a well worn 5 year old tyre with a sidewall split for which GY paid for most of the replacement. They even have a torque wrench. Geoff F.

I knew it was overpriced but when needs must!!!
I'd managed to take a chunk out of one that was only two months old and the wheel also - Tanks to a blonde in a corsa who was and probably is still oblivous to the fact she forced me into the kerb.
Still - managed to get another 11 spoke off Mark Leonard and the tyre is now on the damaged wheel (awaiting a refurb) as a spare.

More help needed! How do I tell what tyre's I have at the moment. They are Goodyear Eagle Touring but the only other reference I can find on them is 86V NCT3 on the Back and 82V NCT3 on the front Does this mean they are GSD3's or something else?

NCT 2, NCT3, GSD2 and GSD3 are all differnet tyre types

Everybody reckons thay they have fitted the "Best" tyre available, whether it is cheap and nasty or the ultimate high performance tyre. Take a list of preferences, finish with the budget and buy accordingly. Geoff F.
