Oops we seem to have gone OT here.Dont worry,as a mod I shall be giving myself a severe warning later.
Thank you again Debs for a superb write up and the link which Ive saved for later drooling. Its really apreciated.
I plan numerous mods when I finally buy Dru outright in March 2008 (I hope!!!),one of which is to get output to around the magic 200bhp region (sorry to use the the pointless bhp measurement) and hopefully a wee bit more than that in torque, which really matters,as the suspension, brakes and chassis seems more than capable of handling that, and quite a bit more I should think.
Turbos are out the question as theres lag, plumbing nightmare, lag, heat dissipation (or lack of in a mid engine configuration),lag, expense, weight, lag, complicated installation and oh,did I mention I HATE lag?
So its either a supercharger or Nos for me as I intend to keep the standard K,as other engine options are too expensive, and well.......its not a "K" is it.
Supercharger is just a glorified air pump,so pros are reliabilty and instant grin as its crankdriven, robust and pretty much maintainance free and not too weighty.Cons being HUGE expense and lots of internal mods, loss of space in the engine compartment and how to feed it enough cold air in a mid engine config. But mostly just expense!!
Nos
From what youve said it would seem to be the best route for more torque. As 11lbs in the boot isnt going to detract hardly at all from the handling (might be able to squeeze it in somewhere else?Engine compartment or bulkheak perhaps)
Plus ease of installation, light weight, cheap (in comparision) and instant grin as no lag,and its only there where you want it.
Reliability is uppermost though so it would be a 50 shot and brought in gradually over a couple of secs like yours as it would be much kinder to the engine gearbox and driveshafts.
The first mod planned is ofcourse head off for gasflowing, porting and larger valves (wee bit more torque there to boot),but I will be retaining the original cams if poss as theyre already a damn good profile I reckon, and Im not a fan on fast road cams as I hate lumpy idling.
Multi layered gasket naturally and the improved oil carrier to strengthen the engine block and help eliminate the expansion stresses.
So while thats going off,it would be a good time to fit forged pistons as we all know Id need them eventually....and while the heads off/sump off it would seem daft NOT to swap them as it wouldnt be a big job.
Plus would I be write in thinking they have improved contours for better and more complete combustion? Not sure about that.
Anyway that lot, plus the usual 4into1,sport cat (meow) and exhaust along with the obligatory induction kit with running a 50 shot of nos would get me to the output at the wheels I would be after.
Result:a happy Spikee. ;D
I was concerned about the ignition being retarded by 2degs,as that would mean loss of effiency and slugish response, but as you say thats not a prob, what with running higher octane fuel no need to retard the ignition, but a programable engine management system would be perfection achieved,so would be a must for me.
Its still far cheaper than the hairdryer option!
The one and only drawback I can see is once the Nos has gone its gone,so I would have to see how long a tank lasts for.
I would say that the american systems arent actually cheaper,as it would wreck the K in no time with its big hit.So Id be guided by you to the WON kit for sure.
I think Im sold dont you?
So yep, once Dru has been bought outright,I would be extremely gratefull for any help in setting it all up.So expect some pestering near the time Im afraid
As an aside.......am I right in thinking that your quarter mile time on your sig is just 3 seconds longer than an Enzo Ferrari??
........and theres the drool again.
