After a lovely drink and lunch with fabulous people at the Bear and Ragged Staff, it seemed generally agreed by the majority that a mothly meet - just a chat over a drink (lunch optional!) would be a nice idea! Monthly meets would not only give a feeling of being a 'proper' group but its also a great way to have a chat and throw around ideas for future meets and also to ask the more mechanically minded for tips or hints regarding our cars!!! Thanks to 003.5's suggestion and help re Sunday's meet (thank you Alistair!!! x) the venue turned out to be a pretty good one for us...within a decent travelling distance and with plenty of room...and now minus two of its waitresses thanks to James!!! We obviously have a pretty busy time coming up with other MG runs to fit in during the next few weeks (Effing the Bridges, Kempenrit and Coast to Coast) but I propose we come to an agreement re the most convenient time to meet and make this a regular monthly meet , possibly alternating between two pubs. Thoughts and other ideas appreciated!!!

My experience of organising various events is that there is much merit in having a regular occasion, eg. the first Sunday of the month, or whatever. That way people know of the event well in advance and can plan accordingly. Those with families and friends to consider in their daily lives can point out that, in this case for example, "The first Sunday in the month is mine, and I go to see my MG friends and am not available for anything else!" I reckon it should at least be tried and if it does not work out the idea can be quietly dropped. BUt I hope that it succeeds.

Also a regular month event means that people who can't make one month due to whatever have the chance of the next month. And those sad people who have nothing else to do (holds up hand) can do them all

If James runs off with one waitress each month, we would need to find a new place to meet quite frequently!

I am happy to arrange the meet for any time that suits the majority. I'm probably more keen to have weekday evening meet so that we don't clash with weekend events. The Essex Roadsters hold their relaxed informal meets during the week and find it is very successful. Members come when they are able to!
As has already been pointed out, if it is a regular monthly event then it isn't a problem if you aren't able to make the odd one as there is always next month. And it would give people a chance to fit the odd meet into their schedule knowing well in advance when the meets are.
Can those who are interested give me an idea of whether they are keen on a weekday evening meet or Sunday lunchtime meet please, so we can gauge response?! Thanks!

As the definite minority (posibly with the exception of Jay) weekday ones would pretty much be out for me, but then I'm technicaly supposed to be in the South West region anyway

I would also prefer a Sunday as I ,too, live some way from any likely meeting place. But I appreciate that a week day gathering would suit plenty of people - would it be an idea to hold meets alternately, but at regular venues, say one month on a weekday in the evening and the next month on a Sunday at lunchtime?

I already realised most of you guys would want it on the Sunday. Hence me saying another meet! I am suggesting that we could really push the boat out and have a weekday monthly meet and a Sunday one. If it’s a problem of organisation I am willing to completely sort out the weekday one?

Weekends distance isn't really an issue for me, just weekdays, but as I said, I'm the minority, go with what everyone thinks is best

Only just caught up with developments! Richard, I think that we could try a twice-monthly get-together to see how it goes to begin with. My feeling after contacting Kieron from the ER was a twice monthly meet-up at two different venues to gauge how it all goes. Nige, I think we could go with your pub suggestion (the Churchillian) for our next Sunday lunch meet and then a mid-week meet a couple of weeks between Sunday meets back at the Bear and Ragged Staff to begin with. See how things progress... We also want to consider Alistair's suggestion re the 'Indian' meet (Wickham area???). Maybe one for one the weather cools a little...although I have just eaten a Goan fish curry and its been baking hot today! Views on these preliminary ideas?
