Oh no....Turin...the hotel...Stelvio......I'm really having second thoughts now..... ARGHHHHHH! You're a woman ... you're allowed second (and third if needed) thoughts. Lyn and I will be going the fairly slow, leisurely way down through France and through the Aosta Valley and on to Turin. Stu (you probably know him? Always telling us about MGs OnTrack) will hopefully be 'convoying' with us and helping us eat some good meals and drink some good wines on the way down. No ferries booked yet.

I think that I really do need to think about this again, John. I used Italy as my focus to get through the bad bits of last year and now...I know that I will kick myself if I don't go.
I was very naughty in that I never confirmed the change in booking (from Italy dates to Kempers dates) with the ferry co. So its still the original booking...until I either return confirmation or decline. I had a chat with someone else who has driven extensively in Europe and they said that I could do it in the time I'd originally planned for. If I drove direct from Dunkerque on the fastest route to Turin, the AA quote 640 miles. 300 miles a day isn't too bad. I have driven 400 miles a day quite often... What to do? I think I'd still like to stay two nights in Turin if I did attend, to experience the city.
Confused....very confused.....

The only bit I'm definitely up for if I do eventually (!!!) attend is the hotel for two nights and the Natter in Turin.
I think if I get sorted for once and for all...and if getting sorted means I do Italy and not Kempers, then the trip there and back will be dashed off and alone rather than what I'd rather do which is meander....

Andie, back in the 80's Dad drove 6 of us in a Maxi, fully loaded, from Cornwall to Italy (Marina de Massa) - it took less than 2 days, with an overnight stop. In one direction we went via Monaco, the other through Mont Blanc tunnel / lake lucerne etc. I remember coming back via hovercraft! So I think you could make it in your TF just fine! Original booking is out early on ferry on 20th, back home late on 25th...so if I did manage it, Turin would probably be for just the night of the natter.
If anyone can think of any reasoning or arguments I can use upon myself in order to reach a settled 'once and for all' conclusion, then PLEASE pm me and tell me! If someone had a route planeed that would suit my time plans too, pm the route plan to me.....if anyone wants to take me as their passenger/companion so I can study for my law exam as we travel....please pm me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calais to Turin is almost 750 miles. Can you get study notes on "talking cd" and listen while you drive?

My mum regularly travels round europe in an old 1963-ish Citroen H-van with a motorhome conversion - it only has 3 gears and a top speed of about 50mph. She got married in Italy 3 years ago and they did that run in their 1950's Deuce Chevaux - 2CV. It's a left-handed 630cc (don't quote me on that- only guessing) with suicide doors, and they're doing the International meet in Sweden later this year in the 2CV and driving all the way from Calaise. So if those 2 old bangers (I mean the vehicles) can go that far then Turin in an F should be no probs!!!!!! HGF free of course.

No ferries booked yet. I thought my ears were burning , Good food and more importantly good wine ;D Well someones got to share a bottle or two with JP so he doesn't get completely smashed ! We'll defo tie up somewhere.. John I have an open Speedferries ticket booked at the mo Stu PS Andie Turin is really a doddle , I have driven it in a day many times but over a couple or few days it will be a really easy drive with some staggeringly beautiful scenery on route once your into the alpes

Go for it Andie. I cannonballed to just past Gibraltar in one go, nattered with Neil S in Monaco just 48 hours after leaving the UK, so Turin in two/two-and-a-half days is well within range. Anyone who says otherwise needs to "Man-up, wet-pants!" (We need some extra ramp-gunners out here if anyone's interested?) It's a driving experience, so experience some driving. Having read Tim's typically well balanced and soothing reply I'll probably show up after all. Someone has to make sure John P doesn't wander off too! So...Passo Stelvio on the way out and Passo Grand St Bernard on the way back, or the other way around?
