Ahoy, fellow real ale drinker. I've been kinda on/off about going for a while. Not the cheapest at twenty quid a shot bearing in mind it's a glorified car showroom (and Caterham aren't gonna be there but Ariel are! ) Which day were you thinking of?

Went yesterday - great day out - pity no MGs there!
BTW the entrance is £10.00 at the door over the weekend and £14 weekday - buy online and it s £12 for a weekday.
The Dockside theatre is well worth a visit to watch the cars performing Romeo and Juliet!

Ah. Always read website twice. £20 was the preview days. Hope it's better than Farnborough. Went to that today and there were probably less than 25 aircraft on the pan and even fewer actually displaying in the air. Plenty of UAV mock ups but they all look the same!

Bob
I confess I did not even know Farnborough was on!
BTW anyone going to Excel make sure you are on the Mazda stand 'on the hour' when they demonstrate the new MX5 folding metal roof - brilliant down (and up) in seconds and as a world first takes no more room than the fabric roof. Karin loved it (the whole car) and thinks our *F* is now getting 'long in the tooth' --- perhaps Nanjing could be persuaded to look at this idea for any future *F/TF* they might produce.

It really was nothing special. I guess the usually damp and drizzly South East is no longer a match for places like Dubai or the Far East when it comes to staging an aviation show. There were a few stands I found of interest, mostly NVDs and flying clothing/helmet technology, all user-interface stuff, but there was nothing special in the air that I'd be telling others about. Having seen Apache in action for real very recently, it was a bit dull as a display, the Mig29 has lost it's wow-factor, and the only remotely "new" item was the A380...and that's just big. Can't speak for the public days but I guess they're probably more lively.

Sorry Bob but IMHO the RIAT at RAF Fairford is THE one to visit if Military aviation is your thing. It's billed as the worlds biggest military airshow. Aircraft visited in past years include F117a, B2, U2, B52 etc. Aircraft from all parts of the globe attended this year including A7,F4, F5 etc - stuff you don't get to see that often and about to be withdrawn from service. New stuff had the Typhoon, Grippen give superb demos. In fact this year (just been told about it) that airspace had been allocated from RAF Valley to Fairford - prior routing info wasn't given, for Global Hawk (UAV) !! sadly this didn't occur, most prob down to curent world events. Still, fingers crossed for next years display

Sorry Adrian his avatar is not showing on my PC - I guess from what you are saying that Bob is a military pilot. However, I still don't agree that the UK can't compete with other countries on putting on a decent airshow for the reasons I put in my previous post.
Having been to many displays around the Uk over the years the only thing that is disappointing is just how few of them there are now. Sadly the list of RAF staion closures is long and distinguished.

Yep Bobs Avatar is not working on my PC too!!
And Yep Bob is indeed in the RAF!!
And Yep (again) I agree with Steve we can put on great air shows BUT I think Bob was referring to the fact that Farnborough is no longer the international draw that it used to be! Sad but true.
