Sorry guys, I can see all of your avatars, so I assumed you could.
Having been section editor (first Europe then the US) for a number of aviation magazines from 1974 till 1982 I wouldn't mind a pound for every airshow I have been to around the world. I agree ours are rather dismal compared to the ones in the US for example, live missile firing into the Pacific at NAS North Island. Jato XC130's at Elmendorf, the list goes on.
But back to the thread, sorry for reminicsing.
The crowds turning out on to the tube at Canning Town every day are a pleasant sight, it certainly seems to be well supported.

If you go by car, and are coming from 'south of the river' use the Dartford crossing and then follow the A13 toward Docklands and Excel, just before Excel on the north side of the Albert Dock, parallel with the City Airport runway is the park & ride car park.
Or coming from the Blackwall Tunnel just follow the signs to City Airport and the Excel.
Do not use the Woolwich Ferry as most mornings you will be 'stacked' for at least an hour.
Otherwise use Adrian's line (Jubilee) to Canning Town and change there or DLR from the City.
Another good line is the North London Rail from Richmond to North Woolwich and get out at Custom House

Well that wasn't a bad day out. Excellent venue with really easy access and some good attractions. The Romeo & Juliet thing was pretty impressive but being an engineer the Bardy bits were a bit lost on me, and we were amongst the last people to go round "Adventurelandshire" - although owning a Discovery I came away from being driven round in a Volvo XC90 thinking "S'alright" Neil also forced MG-Volvo relationships to new heights with his enquiry "'ow may diffs it got then?" to which Mr Volvo replied, with all due Scandinavian aloofness, "It hasn't sir, it's got a splined hoise-boissen which detects if any wheels are off the ground and engages with the high struudle splitter to force the giggle pin to reciprocate the square root of the drive to that corner of the car" Must admit to being a bit mystified by the absence of a few manufacturers or organisations. No Porsche No Caterham (which seems like a bit of a blunder the week after Top Gear built one on telly) and err...no MGRover. The AA were also missing which ws a bit naff as I needed to enquire about European cover. Did join the IAM though, and enjoyed three orange ice lollies compliments of Ford. Stroke of genius that..... "Right, we've got our complete range of new cars, some with leather seats, all brand new and sparkley clean, how can we attract the public, bearing in mind it's the first week of the school holidays" "Errrr......we could give away orange ice lollies to all the kids?" ;D

Yeap was a good day, sat in an Lotus Elise then tried to get out of it...... Put my name on the "interested list" for an EVO10.... Decisions, decisions !!! Only thing was you had to queue for everything. Wouldn't have minded a go on the "Zoom-Zoom Challenge", but everytime I enquired the wait was about an hour in the quarter Will confess to being a bit impressed with the XC90, have no interest in buying one though.

I went on the first day - admittedly costs a little extra BUT well worth it, no crowds, stand staff still fresh and friendly And no queues AND (the biggest AND) no kids!!! I also thought the restaurant in the south halls was excellent and at £25.00 per head for a good lunch plus drinks wasn't too bad a price. BTW I did not have to pay - I was treated PLUS as we were only a short bus & ferry ride away didn't have to worry about alcohol levels. And how about the JCB Diesel record attempt car!!!! Now that would be a talking point on any building site!

The crowds were actually less than I was expecting having been to the NEC in the past.
We also had a lunch and few beers, everything was reasonably priced. Did have to resort to drinking larger though LOL...
Re the Lotus, how can you get out of one with the roof on ?!? Picture the seen turn up at young ladies house how the hell do you get in and out of with any style....
Don't fancy the Fiesta ST, looks better from the outside than the inside!!

Went yesterday - great day out - pity no MGs there! There was one MG there, The RAC MGZS British Touring car. It was near the big Chopper motor bike!
