Even just to sit in one and be shown it's delights is a great feeling.
I loved sitting in Colin's 39 TA at Brooklands this year so I think this is a great idea.
As you have said Richard is certainly a hands on man, I saw as much of him at the weekend as anybody else and he always stops to chat.

I couldn't make it this year first time in 6 six years, but it had got very boring and stale apart from meeting up with friends, one reason i used to do the big bbs BBQ but im'e just not up to that anymore and meant i used to spend most of my weekend preparing and packing away all that, had some good times though, so much needs to be done to improve things,to getting more traders back, more owners going, and right down to improving toilets and showers on campsite, i will be there next year also and hope to see big changes, were all watching Richard Jones and hope he's not an in one ear and out the other type, reports I've heard so far of him he is the former,MGCC is getting an overhaul and about time, fingers crossed. Dave
PS Stu, pax laps a great idea ;D

It was my first time at Silverstone this year and I was a little disappointed. With a vanue like Silverstone and the space that is available there has got to be more that could be done to provide additional interest.
The Racing was good and fun to watch, but the trader area was a bit disappointing.
However, I will probably go again next year so will be keen to see how it develops, perhaps MGCC can get some sponsorship from NAC so that they can do more next year?

One of the main problems this year was that Bernie (bless him) made it quite clear that he didn't want anyone on the grass ruining it for the Grand Prix this weekend.

I confess we gave Silverstone a miss this year. It has to be VERY bright and sunny to want to look rusty bits of old MGs laid out for the 10th year running and the weather forecast did not mention the word sunny but did mention the word RAIN.
Let’s be radical and move it to Brands Hatch, not for my own convenience you understand, but rather to make it easier for our European friends to attend.
I did do the Goodwood FoS on the Friday and that does make Silverstone look VERY expense and a tad dull…..
Restoring Dave’s excellent evening BBQ would be cool…..A mass “Gourmet” BBQ sound just grim and merely another revenue raising opportunity…
Definitely leave the parking by type – it would look ‘orrible if the cars were all jumbled together

For instance at the Fos there were no piles of rusting MG parts !!! I'd also suggest a change of venue even though Silverstone is 40 minutes away from home and Brands Hatch isn't.

Personally Silverstone is two things for me : - 1 - catching up with old friends, and making new ones 2 - the MG racing (especially the prewar MG's) yes brands Hatch is a good spectator circuit, but Silverstone I believe is the best place for our event. Biggest suprise was the lack of traders - no MGF Centre, no MG Mania etc etc. I think James even struggled to get an expansion bottle cap! Lets not forget that 600+ cars were racing at this weekend, making it the largest race meet in Europe (according to the commentator!) I do think a lot more can be done with the register stands - maybe have a car or two on display, but this will need more undercover space - and that is very very very expensive!! BBQ evening was good - not sure it was worth £15 though (the second helping helped though ) highlight was the post meal entertainment taht evening, especially as the night went on, or, was that the effect of The Old Speckled Hen???

very easy to knock and event / those who put it on, but I would like to take this opportunity to thanks those, who without them, the event would not take place as we know it!
e.g. the Marshalls (who do it free of charge, long hours, and often get soaked, and usually even have to buy their own kit/clothing!!), and St Johns Ambulance are two that spring to mind!!

Cross posting from the other thread:
Brands or indeed any other venue is out of the question for several years anyway. The MGCC signed a five year deal with Silverstone relatively recently.

good!
I used to go to the CSMA / MGOC event at Brands - if you thought Silverstone was bad, some years there wasn't even toilets (let alone showers) in the camping field!!! The nearest one were 15 minutes away one year!
Keep it where it is!!
As previously stated, more things to do needs more volunteers - and they seem to get less and less.
Certainly even with our own register it seems to be the same few people volunteering time after time!

But I don’t remember there being a call for volunteers from the club or register, as an ordinary member it’s not clear how you would volunteer even if you wanted to. I just think this is indicative of the problems that MGCC faces with ordinary members feeling disconnected from the club.

I just think this is indicative of the problems that MGCC faces with ordinary members feeling disconnected from the club. I'm sure Richard Jones, the new General Manager, will improve the communications next year, but all CRBs (Centres, Registers and Branches) were asked for help at the last Council meeting in March. Not a strong post I know, but see my post fregister.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=annoucements&action=display&thread=1180135365&page=1 on May 25th. The trouble with Forums is that such posts quickly get lost in a shower of banter and new threads. We also need an effective email newsletter, but a) we still don't have a complete database of members that includes email addresses. b) the ever increasing spam burden means that such newsletters can be filtered out or easily missed. c) a long newsletter won't get read and a short one will need strong editorial control - just like forums, different people feel different things are important and deciding on the content is going to be tricky.

Chris
The easiest way to volunteer to help at Silverstone is to fill in the form as you apply. MGCC does 'hide' the 'marshals wanted' section in the cut off page of the application form ie: the section you normally cut off and keep (or throw away) before posting the important bit off. lol.
They ask for marshals there - they are for everything not just for the racing. I applied via that the first year I had the F and have been helping out since at Silverstone and many other race tracks that the MGCC race at. The one real good thing is, you give a little to them and they give it back to you with free passes for you and a partner ;D Look out for it next year.

That could be the the problem then, I normally stick that bit of paper without reading it in the recycling bin and get my ticket on-line.
