Westcountry region organisers Stu and Sue Bullock bring your attention to the following events in and around our region. As usual, there is no charge for these events other than your own lunch etc. It is always useful for us to have an idea of numbers a week before the event, but do not let that stop you from turning up at the last minute. Bring your sense of humour as well.
Sunday 12th March: MGF Register AGM at the Dog House Hotel, Frilford Heath, near Abingdon. If you are interested in MG history, Abingdon is where they were built and tested on the road between Abingdon and Frilford. The hotel was used by MG staff when entertaining clients. There is a drive in the the meeting starting at 10.30 in Abingdon Market Square. If you want to join us on the run in from Abingdon please get in touch. Roads are fab, food is excellent, company will be superb, of course.
Sunday 19th March: Drive / Natter, Westonbirt Arboretum, near Tetbury. Meet at Sainburys car park, Hankeridge business Park, Taunton, (Near to J25 M5) in time to leave at 10am or contact us for other pickup points. Entrance to Park is £6.50 per adult; £5.50 per person for disabled, senior citizens and students. There is a café on site as well as a plant shop. Bring your wellies for a walk amongst the trees. Hugging is free. (hugging trees that is – I charge!).
Sunday 23rd April: Drive / Natter, Compton Abbas airfield, near Shaftsbury. Meet at the Little Chef at Southfields roundabout (J A303/358 near Ilminster) in time to leave at 10am or contact us for other pickup points. Wander the lanes of Somerset and Dorset and lunch overlooking the rolling countryside. If you contact us at least a week beforehand we can reserve a table.
Sunday May 7th 2006: Atlantic Coast Express Run. This event is organised by the Devon and Cornwall Centre MGCC and is a very well run event. The idea is to follow as near as possible the various routes of the old Southern Railway and this year will start at Okehampton and end at Honiton. Cost is £25, which includes a £10 non-refundable deposit and also includes tea/coffee and a cream tea.
Sue and I have booked our place and if you want to go, contact the Devon and Cornwall centre direct. The event is limited to 85 cars and our experience is that it fills up very quickly. We will organise a drive to the event so contact us for details.
7th to 9th July: The wonderful Goodwood Festival of Speed, obviously at Goodwood, near Chichester. The event opens on Friday 7th until Sunday 9th. It is essentially a hillclimb with just about every sort of racecar and motorcycle made and drivers from many varieties of motor sport. There is a website for Goodwood. We shall be going on one of the days, most likely the Saturday. If you are interested in joining us please let us know.
Please contact us with details of any events you can organise for our region. We shall be visiting Cornwall and South Devon later in the year and there may be other big events organised by other centres that we will hook up with. We look forwards to seeing you there.
It would be useful for those making enquiries about events to contact us through the region email, as below. This is because we are pretty busy and can pick up emails easily. Otherwise telephone home and we will get back to you ASAP.
