I hate reading eBay sometimes. Why on earth are people breaking perfectly good MGFs for?!? See this advert for example: cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mgf-1-8-vvc-bodyshell-VGC-FREE-DELIVER_W0QQitemZ250153907178QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10414QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemThe car even has a current MoT for goodness sake! I presume that this icar is being broken for a kit car build, but honestly! I think that I will need to start thinking more seriously about starting an MGF 'hospital' at this rate to stop the worrying rate of attrition of our favourite sports car. (I spoke to a spare parts expert recently - he told me that of the 60,000 or so MGFs/TFs originally on our roads, just 40,000 or so remain. Very very worrying.

Beause you can sell the individual parts on E-Bay from an older MGF for more than the actual complete car. Geoff F.

it's not a good sign though is it? Hang on to your MGs chaps, at this rate they're going to be very rare in years to come

I think you will start to see this more and more as HGF's make early F's 'un-economic to repair'...

I have seen some very ropey looking early F's in the back of car dealers, obviously taken as trade-ins I can't see them even going to auction with the used car market being as flat as a flat thing at the moment.

It's very hard to bring cars into Australia as they have to meet our compliance laws. We get a fair few F's from Japan as they get to expensive to keep on the roads over there, due to their MOT equivalent. BUT the only way they can come here if less than 20 years old is in parts so the people who import them CUT them in half to show they are for parts/scrap. They open the doors remove the seats then cut from one side to the other right through all the carpets, pipes wiring, I've been after a carpet set, thats how I found out why there aren't any secondhand ones.

I've seen some very rough Fs in peoples driveways when looking to purchase! Some were very rough indeed and would cost more to restore than they are worth in the current market.
Because they are to be produced again we are still not at the stage where early Fs are worth restoring as it makes more economic sense to buy a younger model. If and when NAC replace the current model with a different new car then maybe more people will keep the F/TF going.

All these things happening make me think about buying a 2nd F, just to save one and let it have a worthfully old day. --- or is it to start some modding all over again ---

That was SARRDWBTCAD007211, made in early May 1996 +++ N977 KBH +++ Yes, what Geoff said is correct. I've seen several cars getting sold in pieces in the last month here in D. May be it's engine number 18K4KJ89 299630 survived.
