As some of you may be new to all this, you may be wondering what goes off at these events, from pub meets to convoys. So heres a quick guide to what goes off at these events so you know what to expect.
There will be a regular pub meet for us here in the Pennines, where we all meet up at a prearanged date and time, greet everyone and then its in for a drink (soft drinks for us drivers ofcourse!) and a bite to eat.
Its not all talk about cars,as we come from all ages and both sexes,so its just a good old natter about anything and everything and plenty of laughs too.
Also having plenty of MGF owners around you can pick the brains for technical knowhow, see other peoples mods in the flesh and talk to other owners about the quirks of our car.But mostly its just a good natter, like going down the pub to see your mates.
Then when youre ready you can head back home whenever youre ready, with some good food inside you and a welcome change from the usual day out.
We will also be doing some road runs when the weather turns nicer to the coast and around our gorgeous county,in convoy.
Driving in convoy is nerve racking for the first time, but I promise you,you cant help but grin like an idiot as its that much fun!
There are a few rules to keep everyone safe and happy, and to put you at ease so there is nothing to worry about.
First, keep a safe distance from the car in front,so as to avoid any 'friendly fire' incidents.
Second, look after the car behind.Keep an eye on them and wait for them at any awkward junctions.
Thirdly,if a car does fall behind, flash the car infront so we can all slow down and wait for them to catch up.
Finally, the last car in the group has his lights on to mark the end of the convoy which helps the leader keep an eye on everyone to make sure no one is left behind.
Also when the first car pulls out to overtake say on a motorway, the last car pulls out at the same time to "close the gap off",so all convoyers are kept together.
Newbies are always put in the middle, with the most experianced convoyers first and last to look after you.
Worried about breaking down?Dont be,as we all wait with you untill the rescue services are on their way if we cant get you going.
Convoys range from just 4 cars to as many as 50!!!!!
Its something you have to try at least once.
Then there are the big meets, where we meet up locally and then convoy in.
Places such as Silverstone and Gaydon among many.
Yes they are all MGFs that have convoyed in for the day!
So theres plenty to keep us Fers happy all year round, from local meets to yes, even track days!!
So keep an eye on this forum where I will announce any meets in our area, and nearby, both MGCC meets like the track days,to our local pub meets and everything inbetween.
Hope to see you soon.
