19th August - Run to Shelsey Walsh Hillclimb celebrating 60 years of the British Hill Climb Championship!!- organised by SW MGCC
normally meet up with the SW MGCC at Michaelwood services - all MG's from 40' T Types onwards (believe me, they do sit at 70mph on the motorway!), then convoy up to Shelsey Walsh (near Malvern / Worcs way)for the hillclimb, and watch anything from 1920's Bugatti's onwards go up the hill (and MG 6R4 metro!)
so, who's up for this?

sadly this is cancelled, as per : -
from the venue website : -
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - AUGUST SHELSLEY WALSH
The August 17th-18th-19th meeting at Shelsley Walsh has been cancelled due to landslip damage at Shelsley. An alternative date of the 6th and 7th October has been agreed subject to confirmation by this weekend by the Championship coordinator.
The format of this October meeting will be a condensed version of the British and Midland Hill Climb Championship that would have run on the 17th-18th August, plus a similarly condensed version of the British Hill Climb Championship 60th Anniversary scheduled for 19th August.
It is anticipated that 150 cars will contend the British and Midland Championship part of the event while thirty significant cars relevant to the History of the British Hill Climb Championship will make up the programme in three additional classes.
The Curborough Sprint scheduled for the 7th October will now take place on the 21st October. Competitiors who have entered this event will be contacted in the next few days to confirm whether their entries should stand for the revised date or their entry fee should be reimbursed in full.
Shelsley Walsh is the oldest motorsport venue in the world that is still used. 102 years of speed hill climbing will continue in the Teme Valley, Worcestershire during the 2007 season with six competitive weekends. The future of the hill has been secured for another 99 years, but a great deal of work is underway renovating buildings at the base of the hill for the use of competitors, spectators and visitors alike. If you haven’t bought a yard of tarmac, or entered the Monthly Draw, then do so through the links above. You will be preserving Motor Sport history!
MG Car Club South West Centre
Safety Fast! Notes for August 2007
"For those of you who are without these shores and have strayed into these pages I would like to mention that the months of May, June and July have seen somewhat more rain than is normal; even for an English summer. This deters not the hardy souls of the South West, as it takes more than a drop or two of rain to dampen the unalloyed enthusiasm for all things motoring, however our friends in the agricultural community, on whom we depend for many of the venues for our events, have found it difficult to harvest crops by boat and so the land has been unavailable to us.
This has led to the unfortunate cancellation of such quintessentially ‘grass roots’ frolics as the Pucclechurch and Chew Valley Gymkhanas, the calling off of the Run to Shelsey Walsh (due to land slide) and the unfortunate showing at the M.G.Aero Day (where a few hardy souls managed to finish their picnic lunches, before the wind blowing the sandwich from their hand and the rain swamping their cups of tea, prior to scampering off home to have a hot bath and glass of single malt). It was only last year at this event that we were forced into the shade afforded by the perimeter trees such was the heat of the summer sun. It was so hot in fact that the spare tyre on Andrew Oust’s TC burst with the excitement of it all when we were having lunch. This was a pity as 1. the percussive bang made me choke on my mouthful of pork pie and 2. you don’t see many TC’s with their original, factory fitted tyres these days."
