I have a'99 'S' 1.8i with 85K on the clock. I'm a hopeless case when it comes to anything technical but hope you nice people can advise me. I fear the worst, but here goes in any case.....
1. The clutch pedal seems very heavy, and the bite point very high. When the engine is cold I seem to experience what seems like clutch slip. As the car warms up, the slipping seems to stop. I've phoned my local X-Part man and he reckons it's a sticking clutch lever/arm and it needs a new clutch. He wants to charge me £550 because its an engine out job. Is he likely to be correct or should I do something else first?
2. I recently had a slow leak from my underfloor coolant pipes. I had them replaced by my X-Part man as soon as I noticed. All seemed OK when I gave her a test drive, but I did hear hissing coming from the expansion tank after wards although the temperatures looked fine. The coolant level seemed quite high when I checked the expansion tank. I drove her for the second time today and after wards I checked the coolant level and found that it was now very low. It also looks like chocolate milk with white foamy deposits floating on top, previously it always looked clear. Would anybody agree that this looks like HGF, and could it be down to a bad fitting job on the pipes?
