Hi, I am a fairly new mgf owner and have not yet got a manual as haynes don't do one. I want to change the oil can you please help me and tell me where the sump plug is and want type of oil to put in. How much is the capacity. Are there any good links. Thanks for any help given. Simon. I have a 1997 1.8i vvc

The sump plug is right under the engine facing the front on the side of the sump if i remember right (you can't miss it really) oil should be 10w 40 semi synthetic (most use magnetec) if your fairly new, make sure you let the oil temp get to normal temp before you put the lead in ya boots

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm changing the oil on the weekend the same time as putting a new exhaust on I've put a new s/s down pipe and cat bypass and i'm going to pick up the s/s dtm style system from Moss's. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like? ;D

Simon, For a car where most things are harder, the oil and filter change on the F are a doddle. Magnatec 10/40 and the filter cost c.£31 together from Halfords last weekend. You can access both by lying alongside the offside. No need to jack it up or remove anything. It also means you can check it all for leaks afterwards very easily. The only things to watch are when refilling via the filler cap, you can only do half a litre at a time then find another task to do for five minutes while the level slowly drops. The other thing is the level - nominal 4.5 litres in the container will slightly overfill the system so don't use the entire can. Your exhaust antics may well be less straightforward; you have an angle grinder? - good luck!

Fitted the exhaust ok. You were right Baracus a fantastic noise, maybe even a little to loud. (not!). I'll have to start wearing my jeans half way down my a**e though. Not a good look for a forty year old.

The MGF Register sell the workshop manual through our regalia sales.
Give Emma a call on regalia@mgfregister.org (We also have copies of the new TF manual too, same address).
