From so many ads I see people use the reg letter to give the age of a vehicle. Im afraid we in Ireland ( both North and South ) dont use this system and therefore I for one can never determine the age . I wonder if it would be possible to post a " year-letter " table as a permanent reference Des

Heres a rough guide - but note that the plate only indicates the year of registration, not manufacture ;-) N = 1995 / 96 P = 1996 / 97 R = 1997 / 98 S = 1998 / 99 T / V = 1999 W / X = 2000 Y / 51 = 2001 02 / 52 = 2002 03 / 53 = 2003 04 / 54 = 2004 Etc etc.... the 02 / 52 split determines whether the car was registered in the early, or late period of the year. Hope this helps!

On any car sold new in Australia since the early 80's there is a build date on a plate attached to the car, on F/TF's inside the front compartment. Our reg numbers are different state to state so years are hard to follow that way.

thank you sniperpenguin- very much appreciated. In ROI reg plates start with the year of reg then the county then the unique no. eg 05 WX 1234 would be be reg in 05 in Wexford- cool simple system. Hope youre not sniping at the poor old penguins lol Des
