You've probably seen in FasTForward that we're trying to collect details of MGF Servicing garages - I've had a few from the South East but what about the South Coast area ?
Can anyone recommend or suggest any garages /mechanics ?

Tim
I use Martins in Winchester. They were a MG Rover and Nissan franchise, now Renault and Nissan. However they have made a commitment to continue supporting MG Rover owners, and they are still dealing in a small number of MGs and Rovers on their forecourt.
Over the years I have had 2 MGs (F & TF) and 2 Rovers (820 & Sterling) maintained there and have always received a very high standard of service, albeit at main dealer prices.
I have been able to build a rapport with the front desk staff as well as the mechanic who deals with my cars. They appreciate that I know something about the cars I drive so I get good detailed information, but I believe that they keep all customers well informed of the work being carried out. Small problems with the cars have often been fixed immediately, without a prior appointment, sometimes at little or no cost - ie they know how to look after their regular and loyal customers.
Because of this service and support I consider that the slightly higher cost is actually good value for money and gives me confidence and peace of mind. When the time comes (soon - too soon!) they will also be servicing my ZT-T.
I should add the usual disclaimer that I have no connection with the firm other than as a satisfied customer.

My experience of Central Garages (Torbay) Ltd is limited to the purchase of my TF, a first service and some spares, but I have always found them to be excellent with friendly, knowledgeable staff and fair prices. They are now Mazda dealers and an X-Part outlet, but retain the necessary equipment to service and maintain MGs. Certainly I will take my car to them for its next service in November.

The old Rover garage in Basingstoke (now a part of Kia and Viking etc...) are stopping servicing MGs...their last MH trained guy left recently, and they arent doing it anymore...
Which I guess leaves me with a trip to Winchester, or Fleet (Thomas Day), or even a trip to the wilds of Southampton (tho thats a bit of a haul and a day off work...)
cheers

I do most of the servicing myself, but have my "F" booked in to Seward, Havant for them to do all the tricky bits us mere mortals can't handle. Thought I'd give them a try... They have a Rover trained mechanic (Andy) as they were an MG Rover garage. (Now FIAT & Suzuki) Pete

Having changed the oil, and filters, bled the brakes, lubricated the suspension and all hinges, etc., checked the brakes, levels, tyres, suspension heights, etc. I had given the garage a typed list of jobs to complete my '72K' service (at ~26K miles) this was done for around £80. In the process they found the water cap was losing pressure. That has saved a possible cause of HGF. Also a rear shock was found to be coming off it's lower bush. Unprompted they lubricated both door glasses. Not a full service, but just what I wanted and problems correctly reported. Anybody else going to give them a go? Pete

Was impressed with Thomas Day motors in Fleet yesterday, they still seem to have several MG trained engineers working for them, plus the manager races MG ZRs apparently (didn't get chane to talk to him).
Might try the Wessex centre next time, though that is more of a day out for me.
