Colin - Anyone is welcome as a spectator at an MGoT Track Day. I shall be there in an 'official' capacity, but not participating, but I'm happy to see if I can blag you a pax lap or two (or three, or four......). Just come and find me! (And I guarantee you'll sign up for Donington in October ;D ). And James - yes, it's a Monday. Generally speaking, most of the MGoT days are weekdays - we tend to get better prices from the tracks amongst other things, which helps keep the cost down

I have that week off work anyway so I may well pop along. What time does it all kick off?

James - I haven't had the timetable confirmed, but signing on is usually around 8:00a.m. with driver's briefing around 8:30, with the first session at 9:00a.m. Three sessions per hour, an hour for lunch, wrapping up at 5:00p.m.

Sign-on and briefing sounds about right - I haven't confirmed this with the circuit yet. However, I need to make one correction - Castle Combe doesn't run three-session days. The circuit runs in either 5 or 10 car formats. We have a 10 car format. This means that there are only ever 10 cars on track at once. These cars get around 10 mins on track and then come off to let the next ten go on. There are 50 cars max for this event, which theoretically means that if all 50 queued up all the time you'd get ten mins on track in every 50. However, the reality is that not everyone immediately returns to the back of the queue when they come off. Generally, this format works quite well at Combe and everyone gets enough track time. To reiterate what Mike said about spectators - the more the merrier. I'm probably not driving this event, so can't offer personally, but there should be plenty of opportunity for passenger laps as long as you can bring a helmet, borrow one or hire one off the circuit (some should be available). You would just need to sign-on as a passenger. The list of cars booked in is at www.mgs-on-track.com/events/9/castle_combe_2006-09-04.htm and shows a nice mix of Fs and Bs.

I had taken that into account, I should be home on the Sunday, and that's why I wasn't going to aim to get to Castle Coombe for the 8am start

I've driven CC before using the "Alton Towers" format for a ten car day and it seems to work very well as the pack tends to get very spread out so you end up with the track seemingly to yourself. I'm not booked on (really need to address that soon!) but may pop along anyway.

I'm sure someone would offer you a ride as long as you can get a helmet Andie, these MGOT people seem like quite an amicable bunch

To be honest Andie and in fairness to those novices, a novice event probably isn't best for taking passengers. First time on track can be quite nerve wracking but the seasoned vets really won't mind taking you round so CC is probably worth going to.

I guess you're right there, Mr Canonballbob! I wanted to do the novice day myself but the OH put his foot firmly down and pointed out that I'd be paying for any replacement brakes/tyres etc! Certainly an idea to come along - not so far from me, end of school holidays for my son so he'll be in a classroom, and currently a little spare time on my hands (didn't even get an interview for the last job I applied for... )

Glad to see this thread is generating some interest! I must of had a Cornish moment, and thought it was on a Saturday! Might be able to get the afternoon off to join you though (no chance of getting the morning off though!) - From what I hear about MGonTracks days - this will be a good day out, even if your only watching! p.s. you'll get sorted soon Andie!
