Hi Paul,
I'm afraid to say that you most definitely do have to inform them.
Because it is a performance product they have to be told, however, I can't remember who it was on here, but somebody with their head screwed on told their insurance company it was just to improve fuel economy and emissions, which didn't raise the insurance! :-) :-)
HTH,
Kris

Paul, I am currently with Direct Line, I have informed them of the following mods :
K&N (as Kris said) I told them it was for improved fuel economy (along with the 52mm throttle body).
BlueFlame exhaust (original spec too expensive).
Lowered suspension knuckles, original unstable on motorways.
Front KH splitter and rear spoiler, again to aid stability.
Result : no added premium.
I am also getting quotes, insurance expires next month from other companies, so far no added premiums yet. I'm down to £255 with Steve Marsh at A Plan, still looking to see if this can be beaten with no added loading. This also includes protected NCB for life.

Hi Adrian, That list really is quite an outstanding achievement in my books! :-) :-) :-) Now, is there any chance you could think of one for Nitrous for me? ;-) Kris

When I got my Vader filter fitted my existing insurers wanted to increase my premium to £1100 After checking around I managed to get a quote from Pete Best (around £300) - their only proviso was getting a dyno test on a rolling road to find out what the modded Bhp was. As it's 'only' 149Bhp / 151Ps(@6750rpm) with the filter I think it's still within the same insurance group.

Just got my quote from Peter Best, with mods declared, I had to explain everything about the K&N to them, but as bhp gain was minimal, on an mpi engine. No loading for the mods was, I thought a good start. With full NCB and never a claim or a penalty point, neither has Dawn, at our ages they came in at £366.

ANY modification not declared could void your insurance.
However, I'm with Peter Best also, and just about to have some mods done - exhaust system - spoilers. On checking out the likelyhood of a hike all they asked was that I informed them when they were done - again no premium increase.

Nick, Dawn and I are both well over 25, his price was the most expensive of all the companies I tried.

Nick, Dawn and I are both well over 25, his price was the most expensive of all the companies I tried. Very odd - the quote I got from them was within £5 of the A-Plan quote, but slighty better terms in case of accident (£200 rather than £250 excess, and no excess at all on glass).
