Not to worry Kate, hope to see you at the next one and hope you manage to get the problem sorted. Does sound like a brake pad prob, if unlucky it could be the discs as a bit more pricey.
See you soon.

Kate
The F does have a 'noise generator' atached to the rear pads - bit of springy steel that rubs on the edge of the disk when the pads get low = noise.
Front pads don't do the same, they just wear out; in that case the noise is metal pad holder against metal disk.

Noise whirring like, not grinding so hopefully is pad not disc! Need to get it to my friendly garage owner Howard asap! Boyfriend too busy, me hopeless, don't want to touch anything in case I break something!

Noise whirring like, not grinding Just a thought, could it be a wheel bearing?

I posted in the general board by mistake.... thanks for organising it Soo, I am on the lookout for Fs/TFs in the Watford area that I can stick a card under the wipers which will point them to this board!

Car at garage today, await their expert opinion anytime soon. Plus want it back v.badly! First time I have had a car I care about at the garage! Luckily I trust Howard not to drive it around for the hell of it! Hopefully sans noise. Sorry work for french company-showing off my french language skills!
