Hi Folks
Well, first of all I am so sorry this has taken me a lot longer than I said to put this announcement on the board. Those of you who know me well enough will know that I have had a bit of a hellish month at work - finishing late every single night in June, working weekends, having to cancel my 2 days holiday for Silverstone Weekend, surviving on 4.5 hours sleep, etc… and as a result, I've barely been on this board for weeks either.
Anyway, enough about me and straight to the point of the thread...
As some of you already know (and the rest of you probably do by now after SF’s BBQ and how long it has taken me to post this!) the main event to celebrate the ER 10th Birthday next year will be a Tour of Britain in the Fs/TFs. Seeing as our beloved MGs are British made and the fact that our ER logo is the one an only Union Jack, this seemed a fitting tribute.
The exact route is still in the planning, but the basic trip is to drive anti-clockwise around Great Britain, stopping off at a handful of lovely places along the way – including (at time of writing) The New Forest, Abergavenny (in Wales), The Lake District, somewhere in Scotland, York... to name but a few. The only country we won't be visiting in Britain is Northern Ireland - for obvious reasons...
This is a big trip and won't just be your typical Roadsters weekend away - it will be more like a holiday, as it's a lot of driving and there will be stopovers for one or two nights in certain places. Therefore, we are talking approximately a week away (Saturday to Saturday) and the week we've got set aside at present is the 2nd week in June next year.
As it will be a fairly costly event - what with petrol, hotels, museum/place of interest visits, eating out, etc. - the thoughts at the moment are to start another saving scheme now, just to ease the dent in our wallets when we actually go on the tour next year. (For discussion tonight, perhaps?)
It's a big commitment and won't be cheap, but we will definitely be going ahead with it, even if there are only 4 or 5 cars involved (and we already have 2 or 3 definites). Of course, we hope to have more though. ;D
We'll have to have a cut off point for exact numbers by the end of this year/New Year to ensure that - if there are lots of us - we can all get into hotels as a group.
We'll have a final itinerary of the trip later on in the year. In the meantime, I’ll keep you all updated on progress as it's being put together and, no doubt, we'll have many discussions on the matter at various meets too.
Think that's about it for now. I will (hopefully/fingers crossed!!) see you all tonight.
Over and out for now.
