Yeah, I know it's only the end of August, but if we're going to have a festive gathering, we need to be thinking of it now so we get a good date and venue ;D A couple of us have already started looking for a suitable venue, and we're trying to find somewhere that's a reasonable price per head. Also, some of our group may need to stay over and that's also been one of the big points regarding it's locality, to have it close to a hotel/b&b for the SMSers in the far reaches of our region. I'm after suggestions for venues and also names for those interested. This will be a Southmids Sportsters event with members of the group having priority on available spaces, but if we have space for more, we'll open it up to friends nearer the time. For venue suggestions, please PM or Email me. For interest in attending, please add your name to this thread. Rich. Interested so far: Richard & Kate Stewart Dave & Moira Dave & carole

Right then, I'll get this started. Been having a little look at this, and have tried to come up with things at a range of different prices. First (and my personal favourite!) is Christmas at the OK Corral Towcester Racecourse at £32.50 to £47.50 depending on date. www.christmaspartiesunlimited.co.uk/venue.php?town_id=13&area_id=15&county_id=6&venue_id=477. Or, Festive Celebrations at the Holiday Inn in Central MK. Prices from £19 to £35 for either finger buffet, carvery or fine dining, all with a disco. Room prices are from £59. www.christmaspartiesunlimited.co.uk/venue.php?town_id=13&area_id=15&county_id=6&venue_id=712. Or, Christmas House Party at Eynsham Hall (BTW I live in Eynsham, near Witney!!!). Priced at £39.50 for meal, DJ, casino and a CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN! Accomodation at the place (very nice!) is £37.50 per person which includes use of the leisure facilities and a hearty full english breakfast! www.christmaspartiesunlimited.co.uk/venue.php?town_id=69&area_id=15&county_id=33&venue_id=541. That's about all I've found at the moment. Of course, not being in the Northampton area, I've no idea of smaller venues etc. where we me be able to do something cheaper, so I'll leave that to the rest of you!

Flamin' 'eck Stewart, you've been busy! Some really good ideas there but I think we'll still have to look for slightly cheaper options. Kate is going on the web to search for some places and prices too, so hopefully we'll have a range of venues and deals to compare. Keep looking everyone. We're going to need to book quite soon! Rich.

Was the one in Buckingham the place that used to be the Four Pillars (I think it is now a Best Western). I remember going to one there about 10 years or more ago, and to be honest it wasn't that great! But then again, a lot can change in 10 years! I won't know about the dates of my other parties till another couple of weeks, but I usually end up being double booked for something anyway! Dave, are you suggesting a Sub Committee to organise the Christmas Party??? Sounds like you want an extra session at the pub!

Don't know if we'll have a definitive list of possibilities by the Brit-Cars Rally but we are having a pub meet on 16th so perhaps we can get some kind of decision then. As for the date, I'm going to try for as near to Christmas as possible. It always annoys me when you have a do right at the beginning of the month. It's just not Christmas then...
Rich.

We've found another possible venue, but it may be a little far for some...
It's at the Billing Mill (yeah, next to Billing Aquadrome, but nothing to do with it... Promise). The place has just had a refurbishment and is very smart. It was actually closed on the MGFest weekend because of the refurb. They are doing a Christmas Fayre deal.
The cost of a three-course meal from their special Christmas menu is £20.50 for two people, which is very good value. The menu gives vegetarian options too. Also, if we have a booking for 20 or more people, they are prepared to cordon off an area especially for us. Deposits will be £5 per head and must be in and cleared two week prior to the booked date.
For those wishing to stay over, the Premier Travel Inn that many used for MGFest is within walking distance.
Let me know what you think. They haven't had any bookings yet so we can virtually have any day. My first thought is Friday, 21st December at about 8pm. Obviously, there won't be any entertainment provided with this deal, but we can do our own. Another thought is a 'Secret Santa' (you know what that is I assume) and perhaps a quiz, as the MGF Register do at the Dog House Hotel.
Comments invited... Please!
Rich.

And another idea I've had for Christmas (leave it out Rich, it's only September...) was a run to the Lincoln Christmas Market. Details of this fantastic traditional events can be found here. We'll do a poll for the best day to go nearer the time... Rich.

Two very good Ideas Richard including Lincoln...An expensive time as we all know so the costs for Xmas dinner sounds especially attractive.

Being a bit of a John Travolta on the dance floor (although Moira might disagree ) I reckon the extra tenner or so for something with entertainment is worth it.
