Hi All.
I have the original MG Radio/Cassette in my 1996 MGF. I would like to replace this unit with a Radio/CD player. I don't know the key-code for the radio/cassette. Is there any way of disabling the key-code, so that if I remove the unit, I can put it back at a later date and it will still work, or will I need the key-code?
Neil.

You'll need the radio code if you remove it and put it back in again, but lets be honest... Who's going to want a cassette player in a car if you come to sell it anyway?

Just thought it would keep the "F" original.

I'm sure I've seen people advertise a recoding service in the local motoring press.

Did you try the Radio/CD I passed on to you? Any good?

I haven't tried it yet Stu. I want to take the old one out, but don't have the code, so just wondered if there was any way of de-activing it, so that the code isn't needed.

Good news ;D Yes the code can be de-activated so that you can remove the radio and/or battery and it will still work when re-connected. Bad news You need the code to deactivate the code!

Hi Green Squirrel Your other postings indicate that you have all the original documentation from the supply of the car. There should be a little card like a business card which has the code for the radio thereon - it must be there. Now I know that you have had a new battery in 11 years so you must have entered the code at least once.
BTW - glad to see you got back from sunny Portugal. I hope karin and yourself are well.

Yep no problem - we have our code and yes we have had to enter it several times!
Portugal is a great country - lovely people and an inexpensive place to tour BUT some of the roads are not exactly MGF friendly - didn't worry us as we were there with our thumping great 4X4 ! And we are both well - that is Karin is but I have suffered two 'collapsed' knees and just this week had first operation to try and get them back into some sort of 'walking' state.
PS Stoneybroke give us clue as to who you are!
OK have now sussed you out after reading the Highlander Pages ;D

I don't think so - can't check at the moment as The Squirrel is in his nest.

I suppose the only way to find out is to unplug the Radio and then plug it back in and see if it ask's for the CODE.

On quite a few previous cars I've owned, the code has been on a label stuck to the back of the radio!! Daft I know.
